Published: 19. July 2018

International grocery chain Coop is testing a new pickup concept – temperature controlled lockers at the largest Hypermarket in Genoa, Italy. Then the new grocery ordering platform lets shoppers to order groceries and easily retrieve them from the store.

Temperature controlled Click & Collect lockers, developed by Norwegian technology company StrongPoint, are being piloted in the first Coop store and installed by InfoStore.

„Our strategy behind launching the new pickup concept was to bring customers a new and innovative experience that is quick, convenient and seamlessly easy,” says Giovanni Battista Clavarino, Hypermarket Organization and Innovation Director of Coop.

“We have chosen temperature controlled lockers to let customers pick-up their fresh and frozen groceries at their own leisure 24/7. They don’t have to dedicate any additional time in-store or waiting for order delivery,” he adds.

Shoppers who place an order online will receive a text message containing a PIN number. They can drive up to the lockers, enter the number using the integrated touch screen unit and collect their shopping. The ambient, chilled and frozen temperature-controlled lockers store customer orders and can be refilled several times a day.

StrongPoint has fully developed the Click & Collect locker solution and is currently receiving great attention from retailers worldwide. The lockers are of modular size. Most common lockers have 39 configurable rooms for frozen, chilled and ambient temperature goods. That means that absolutely all kinds of groceries may be delivered. There is a possibility to place the lockers outdoors or indoors.
