When fulfilling grocery e-commerce orders from the store, one of the biggest challenges has always been on-shelf availability. Knowing what is actually available on the shelf at the moment an order is about to be picked has, until now, been impossible.

At NRF 2026, StrongPoint, together with VusionGroup, will showcase the order picking solution that delivers accurate at-shelf availability from inside the store and makes it directly usable before items are picked.

The solution combines StrongPoint’s order picking solution with VusionGroup’s EdgeSense shelf intelligence and Captana computer vision, enabling near-real-time, shelf-verified availability during the picking process.

Before picking begins, the app provides information of what products are unavailable, including picture of the shelf, and options including sending a restock task to colleagues.

Transforming quick-commerce order accuracy

This capability is especially important for quick-commerce, where small basket sizes mean that even a single missing item or substitution can have a significant negative impact on customer satisfaction, making accurate on shelf availability critical.

With shelf-verified order picking, grocery retailers can use the picking process itself to identify availability issues in advance and ensure products are replenished or sourced correctly before picking begins. This significantly reduces the need for substitutions and improves fulfilment accuracy.

Looking ahead, grocery retailers working with quick-commerce partners can also share verified in-store availability with those partners, ensuring that customer-facing apps only show products that are available in the store. This not only improves the customer experience but also creates new opportunities for retailers to monetize accurate availability data.

Additional benefits for in-store shoppers

By knowing in advance which items are required for upcoming e-commerce orders, stores can prioritize replenishment to ensure sufficient stock levels for both online orders and in-store shoppers. This helps prevent sudden out-of-stocks caused by spikes in e-commerce demand.
