Engineering Manager
StrongPoint develops, integrates, and sells technology and software solutions for retail and provides maintenance and support services. The company has 18 offices and unites almost 500 employees in the Nordics, Baltics, UK, and Spain. Approximately five million retail customers use StrongPoint retail technology every day.
The Team:
You will be an integral member of a passionate and collaborative cross-functional team, dedicated to working with cutting-edge products like POS and Self-service systems. The team consists of software professionals, including Product Manager, System Analysts, Quality Assurance engineers, Developers and other experts, totaling 10 members.
Role Overview:
As an Engineering Manager for StrongPoint’s new POS platform, you build, lead, and develop a high-performing engineering team while remaining accountable for the team’s technical outcomes. You grow engineers’ technical and leadership capabilities through coaching, clear expectations, and active technical guidance, while owning the technical backlog, architectural direction, and delivery of technical initiatives.
What will you do:
• Lead a high-performing engineering team by attracting, growing, and retaining talent while fostering a results-oriented, inclusive, and psychologically safe environment
• Act as the primary owner of the technical improvements backlog, ensuring product reliability and scalability in line with product and organizational objectives
• Manage performance and support career growth through clear set expectations, effective 1:1s, regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews
• Provide clarity and direction for teams during organizational change, go-to-market delivery phases, and periods of product scaling
• Turn organizational objectives and technical direction into actionable team plans. Track delivery progress and team health using qualitative and quantitative signals
• Coordinate across functions to align on ownership, dependencies, and priorities to surface unresolved misalignment or ambiguity early
• Drive continuous improvement of team practices, workflows, and rituals to increase efficiency and sustainability, proactively minimizing single points of failure
• Provide hands-on leadership in critical decisions and escalation scenarios
• Contribute to organizational growth through hiring, onboarding, levelling, and cross-team initiatives, including helping to share knowledge and improve engineering practices across the wider organization
• Support strategic programs such as platform unification, cloud modernization, and AI-driven capabilities
• Guide architectural direction and long-term platform evolution, with focus on scalability and resilience
What we expect from you:
• 6+ years in software engineering with strong technical foundation; experience in modern cloud-based architectures
• 2+ years of experience managing an engineering team, including hiring and onboarding
• Strong people management and leadership skills
• Proven track record of building and leading high-performance engineering teams with a focus on inclusivity, team cohesion, trust, and accountability
• Customer-centric mindset and strong ownership for results, impact, and continuous improvement Data-informed approach to decision making
• Exposure to operational excellence practices (incident management, postmortems, and continuous improvement loops)
• Strong software architecture skills, ability to design complex systems from the ground up with functional and non-functional requirements in mind
• Experience in SaaS or enterprise-grade system design, ideally with multi-tenant, distributed, or event-driven architectures
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices, including CI/CD
• Hands-on software engineering experience from design to production delivery and maintenance
• Fluent in English
- Nice to have:
- Familiarity with at least one cloud provider (Azure, AWS or GCP) and data/AI-enabled platforms
- Experience with object-oriented programming languages (JAVA preferred) and principles
